---
What am I expected to do at
the auditions, and what are the requirements to be in a CMTO Production ?
*The ages
of 10 and older (the age requirements for "Oklahoma!")
(Please note - ALL those under 21 years of age are cast in the
production ;
* Those performers enrolled in school ( ages 8 through 18 ) must
maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to be eligible for CMTO ( and must be able
to provide written proof to the CMTO Management upon request ).
* When you arrive at the Audition / Registration Area, ask for a CMTO Production Registration Packet.
Please proceed to complete this and give it back to CMTO Audition
Coordinator, along with your payments.
(
Checks payable to CMTO ; we now accept VISA / MC / Paypal, and this should be in place by Audition / Registration Day, so you may plan on using your Credit Card for your payment. )
* You will receive a number on a sticker. Make sure you put this
visibly upon your shirt / top so that we can identify you easily.
* Go into the Audition Area, sit quietly and watch the other auditioners
perform, and wait for your number to be called.
* Listen for directions on just when to go on-stage, and other
important info the director(s) may give you.
*Have prepared and perform, a solo singing selection with
CD karaoke tracks, a capella ( without music accompaniment ), or ( the
preferred but not required method ), sheet music for the piano
accompanist, of at least 30
seconds long FROM ANY BROADWAY SHOW with accompanying sheet music (
piano accompanist will be
provided if desired ).. "POP" OR OTHER "CONTEMPORARY" MUSIC ( i.e., Rap, Country, Rock, Opera, Disco, Heavy Metal, WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ) *Note
- music selections from anything other than what is listed above will not be accepted, so... PREPARE !! ) :-)
*Be prepared to learn and perform a basic stage movement as taught by
the choreographer.
After
your audition, you may leave when dismissed, and we will let you know
if you need to return for the Callbacks portion
of the process.
If
you DO NOT receive a Callback, then - congratulations ! You are now in the Cast, and
your role will be as an Ensemble Performer ! What you receive as a role
will depend upon how
we decide to utilize your unique talents and abilities within our
production. Rest assured - whatever ensemble role you receive, you will
have a blast !!
IF
you are called back
for a Lead Role, you MUST return at the designated time for the Callback process to be eligible for your role. NO ONE
can
miss the
callbacks if they are interested in getting the Lead Role they desire.
At this callback, you will be asked to do a "cold reading" ( which is a
selection of dialogue in your callback role from the actual script ),
as well as singing a section of your role's song(s) - if your role does
indeed have a song. NOTE - You may also be called back for
more
than one Lead Role, so be prepared to be "open-minded" about the
possibilities at Callbacks. In any case, you will have a great
experience.
If
you are not selected as the Lead Role you were called back for, then
you will automatically become an Ensemble Performer.
---
What if I decide not to do
the production in the event I don't receive a Lead Role / the Lead Role
I wanted ?
We
ask you to state whether or not this is / will be, an issue, on your
Registration Packet on Audition Day. If you decline to be in the
production AFTER the castlist is posted, then NO REFUND will be given.
If you decide to drop out of the production AFTER you audition, but
BEFORE the cast list is posted, then you will receive a $25 refund. So
- the RULE of the THUMB is : BE SURE you want to be a "Team Player" in
the production overall, and that you want to participate in the
production regardless of the role you get ; without ALL roles being
equally important, the show truly cannot go on...
---
When will the Cast List be
posted, and where ?
The
Production Cast
List will be posted on the Monday following the last Audition Weekend
after 5p.m., ( for the Summer '08 show, it will be on July 2nd ),
on the CMTO Website
(www.cmtoregon.org)
---
When are rehearsals and how
often are they scheduled?
Show
rehearsals for each CMTO production are scheduled after the
conclusion of the Auditions and receipt of the Conflict Calendars.
Rehearsals are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, (12:30pm
to 5:30pm) and
off Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. After approximately three weeks,
Saturday rehearsals from Noon to 5pm, will be added as the
production gets nearer to the
show opening. Not all cast
members rehearse every day.
During
the final two production weeks before Tech Week,
all rehearsals are MANDATORY for the entire cast. Mandatory rehearsals
may run until 7 or 8 p.m., or even later (production-dependant). You may not miss any rehearsals during
production weeks, or you may be removed from the show.
The
Parent Meeting,
scheduled after the cast list is posted is the first Mandatory event.
You will incur one full absence if you miss this meeting.
---
Where are rehearsals?
The
rehearsal location is at CMTO, 205 Fern Valley Road, Suite Q, Phoenix, OR 97535
---
Where are the performances?
The
performances will be over two weekends ( depending upon production ), at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, Medford.
---
How many performances will
there be ?
There will be 4 performances for this production of "Oklahoma !"
---
What if I have a schedule
conflict?
All
known schedule conflicts must be noted on your audition form. You are
allowed up to 3 pre-noted absences. An Appeal for Reinstatement form
must be signed in order to continue rehearsing if more than 3 regular
rehearsals are missed. Conflicts will NOT be allowed during production
weeks or during the performances, period, or you may not be able to do
another CMTO production. (Extenuating circumstances such as a death in
the family will not have consequences.)
---
Who do I go to when I have
a question?
Please
go to the Parent Coordinator(s) or your specific Volunteer Coordinator
for a specific committee. Please avoid disrupting rehearsals by going
directly to the Director, or artistic staff. You will meet the Parent
Coordinator(s) at the Mandatory Parent Meeting. A Contact List is also
distributed at the Parent Meeting.
---
What is Sidelining?
Sidelining
is a disciplinary action in which a cast member is temporarily removed
from rehearsal activities for inappropriate behavior. The authority
administering that sideline determines each sidelining duration. Once
the sideline duration has been completed, the cast member may return to
rehearsal.
Each
sidelining results
in an automatic half (1/2) absence. A cast member may incur multiple
sidelines in a single day. Cast members may be permanently removed from
the production immediately upon their total absence count (including
absences, tardies, early departure, and sidelines) exceeding three (3)
days.
Any
and all CMTO staff
may administer sidelining or staff designates. This includes but is not
limited to: Directors, Choreographers, CMTO Producers,
Vocal Coach, Rehearsal Monitor, CMTO Parents' Auxiliary, and other CMTO representatives.
---
What does it cost to
participate in an CMTO production?
The Participation Fee, or your cost to participate in a show, (an 8-week
course), is
$250 per performer ( sibling discounts, as well as scholarships, are
available - please see below for more info ). This fee includes the Costume Fee. In addition
there
is a fully-refundable Parent Participation Deposit fee of
$150 ( per family ).
Some
additional costs you
can anticipate include: a make-up starter kit (approximately $20), show
t-shirts, personal messages or advertisement in the program,
photographs, tickets to the shows and the cast party (which is
optional).
Important
-
*A Parent Participation
Deposit of $150 is required at auditions/registration. This deposit is
returned at the end of the production if the performer's parent /
family has completed the mandatory Backstage participation during "Tech
Week" ( as needed ), and also has assisted backstage for at least
ONE-HALF of the scheduled performances. If the Parent / Family of
the Performer does not participate Backstage during these two periods
of the production,
the $150 deposit becomes NON-REFUNDABLE. CMTO is a "Parent-Run" Youth
Theatre, and as such, relies on the involvement and participation of
Parents in the production. Parents not becoming involved with their
child's production forces CMTO to use the Parent Participation Deposit
to hire outside individuals to perform positions within the production
for its successful presentation.
CMTO is very strict with regards to the above policy, so please
consider carefully before committing to the production. These policies
ensure a wonderful and rewarding production experience for all !
---
If I have more than one
siblings in a production, is there a price break?
Yes,
if two or more siblings participate in the same show, the second,
third, fourth, etc. siblings receive discounted participation fee of $50 off each
(i.e., $450 for two siblings instead of $500 ; $675 for three siblings instead of $750).
---
Are there scholarships
available?
Yes.
The CMTO Board of Directors awards Partial and Work Scholarships, equivalent to three (3) full scholarships
for a show with a cast size of 50, or up to six (6) full scholarships
for a show with a cast size of 100, to individuals deemed most
appropriate from the pool of applications. CMTO no longer awards Full Scholarships.
Each
partial scholarship given will be based upon financial need, and this
need must be submitted in writing, via a Financial Disclosure Form
available, and due, at Audition Day. In addition, CMTO will waive the
$150
parent participation deposit upon determination of need / hardship, but not the parent participation.
Work scholarships recipients must commit to work hours within CMTO in
order to fulfill the dollar amount awarded. Award decisions will be
made by the board of directors on a "case-by-case" basis, based on
the applicant's desire to attend, potential benefit to applicant, and
financial need.
Scholarship recipients must be in good standing with the company and
commit to remain in the show regardless of whether or not a lead role
is obtained. They also may be asked from time to time to help out at
the facility on set work days or painting days.
Please note : All participants, whether applying for scholarship or
not, must submit the appropriate payments on Registration Day - no
exceptions. If you are applying for a Scholarship, then we will hold
your payments without cashing them until the final decisions on
Scholarships are made. It will then be at the participant's choice on
whether to continue within the production or not. If the participant /
family elects not to participate, then the submitted payments will be
refunded, well in advance of final casting of the production.
Recipients of
scholarships will be notified by phone no later than 3 p.m. the
following Monday (the day before final casting and the posting of the cast list).
Within your
Financial Disclosure Application for CMTO Scholarship, you may wish to
include reasons that would motivate the board of directors to offer you
a scholarship. Include your name, address and a telephone number at
which you can be reached on Monday.
Again - applications for scholarship are available for completion, and
due with the Registration packet ( only if you are choosing to apply )
the day of Registration / Auditions.
---
What is my volunteer time
commitment as a parent?
Without
a certain number of volunteer hours from every cast member family, the
show cannot go forward. By having a performer in an CMTO production, as
a parent or guardian, you agree to contribute a minimum of 20 hours of your
time backstage during "Tech Week", and assist backstage at least ONE - HALF the performances. More details will follow at the
Mandatory Parent Meeting.
If
you choose not to
participate as a parent, you will forfeit your $150 parent
participation deposit. If you decide you do not want to volunteer you
may indicate this on your registration form, and we will keep the $150
parent participation deposit so that we may hire "outside employees" to work backstage.
---
Is the volunteer time
commitment for EACH child I have participating?
No,
parent participation is per family, per performance commitment and does
not increase with additional children you have in the show.
---
How am I kept informed
during the production?
E-mail
is the primary source of communication. This communication will be sent
on a weekly basis and at times on a daily basis. It is extremely
important that you check your e-mail for periodic updates regarding
details of the production. In addition, CMTO has a website that
information is posted to on a frequent basis.
---
The
article in the Ashland Magazine said all kids who audition get a part
in the show. Did that mean on stage,
or also
behind the scenes ?
That generally means
"on-stage", but we also have the performers assist
with set moving, set building and painting where it is practical, and
other behind-the-scenes duties, i.e., costumes, makeup, hair,
etc...
Again
- this is all with regards to practicality. The main focus for
the "casting all who audition" is "on-stage".
---
What else
should I know?
Being a part of this show will require all the members of your family
to make this production a priority within their schedules. It will
require teamwork, support and flexibility from everyone. It will also
require you to smile and laugh a lot, have fun, meet new people, watch
your child grow as a performer, and enjoying the time spent within the
entire Children's Musical Theatre of Oregon family.
We continually add
updated info to our website, so periodically check back to it to see
what new information has been added...
Thanks again for your interest, and we hope this program is something
that sounds appealing for your child. We have been very successful
during our first year, and we are growing very steadily, thanks to the
reputation we have gained throughout the area.
Please take a moment to read the testimonials on our website, along
with looking at our current rehearsal Google Calendar, so that you may
become familiar with our scheduling models and other production
information.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming auditions !
We are glad you are
here.
Welcome.
